Damages for Farm Worker Injured by Falling Hay Bales

A farm worker who was seriously injured by falling bales of hay has obtained a substantial compensation settlement.

He was stacking bales of hay when one of the towers of bales fell onto him. He was working alone when the accident occurred and was trapped for over an hour. He sustained a serious spinal cord injury and multiple fractures to his spine and limbs. He has been left with permanent disability and will not be able to return to work.

After he brought a personal injury claim, the owners of the farm accepted liability for his injuries, admitting that he had been required to work in unsafe conditions, without suitable training. Interim payments were secured and he was able to undergo experimental treatment which significantly reduced his pain and helped him to regain a great deal of independence.

Evidence of his prognosis and future care needs was obtained from a number of experts. Following negotiations, a seven-figure settlement was agreed.
