Compensation has been secured for a bakery employee who developed asthma as a result of conditions in her workplace.
She was regularly exposed to flour dust while working on a production line. After many years in her role, she began to experience breathing difficulties and was diagnosed with occupational asthma.
She brought a claim against her employer, arguing that the level of flour dust exposure was unsafe and the risks had not been adequately assessed and controlled. Her employer denied liability, but medical evidence was obtained demonstrating that her asthma had been caused by the conditions in her workplace.
Before her claim was due to go to trial, a settlement of £37,500 was agreed.
